MaxPreps Midwest Top 25 Boys Basketball Rankings

1. (Last week 2) St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio), 15-1
The Eagles soared to the No. 1 ranking by beating Gilmour Academy (Gates Mills, Ohio) 83-57 and St. John's (Toledo, Ohio) 66-59 in extending its win streak to 11 games. Kipper Nichols, a 6-7 junior, averaged 31 points in the two victories. Marsalis Hamilton also had 22 points against Gilmour Academy, which had won its last 12 games.

2. (3) Curie (Chicago), 18-1

3. (5) Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati), 15-1
The Crusaders squeaked past Elder (Cincinnati) 55-52 in two overtimes as Grant Benzinger scored 20 points.

4. (6) Lanphier (Springfield, Ill.), 21-0
The Lions roared past Glenwood (Chatham, Ill.) 65-45 for their school-record 20th consecutive victory behind Larry Austin Jr., who had 29 points and 11 rebounds. They then made it 21 straight with an 86-52 win over Taylorville (Ill.) as Xavier Bishop scored 22 points.
Next: Saturday vs. Rochester (Ill.)

5. (1) Indianapolis Arsenal Technical (Indianapolis), 17-2
The Titans won their first Indianapolis City Tournament title since 1991 by beating Cathedral (Indianapolis) 66-58 for their 16th straight victory. Trey Lyles did the bulk of the damage with 23 points, 13 rebounds, six blocks and five assists. However, two nights later they were upset by Hamilton Southeastern (Fishers, Ind.) 77-71 despite 27 points and 15 rebounds by Lyles to lose their No. 1 ranking.
Next: Saturday vs. Pike (Indianapolis.)

6. (7) Apple Valley (Minn.), 19-1
The Eagles crushed Lakeville South (Minn.) 104-61 and Kennedy (Bloomington, Minn.) 78-43 as their winning streak reached 14 games. In the latter contest, Dennis Austin had 18 points, while Tyus Jones had 15 points and seven assists.
Next: Eagan (Minn.) on Monday

7. (8) La Lumiere (LaPorte, Ind.), 17-2
The Lakers were idle last week.

8. (10) Stevenson (Lincolnshire, Ill.), 18-1
The Patriots defeated Gurnee (Warren, Ill.) 66-51 as Jalen Brunson scored 20 points and dished out seven assists.

9. (11) Marian Catholic (Chicago Heights, Ill.), 17-2
The Spartans handed then No. 20-ranked Dubuque (Iowa) its first loss, 68-61, during the Wendy's/American Trust Classic at Loras College. Leading the big victory were Tyler Ulis with 22 points and nine assists and Ki-Jana Crawford with 18 points and five steals. Josh Cohn scored 16 points to spark a 57-44 win against Marist (Chicago).

10. (12) Muskegon (Mich.), 12-0
Deyonta Davis, a 6-9 junior, averaged 18 points, 14 rebounds and seven blocks during victories over Reeths-Puffer (Muskegon) 85-42 and Union (Grand Rapids, Mich.) 71-57.

11. (15) Brookfield Central (Wis.), 15-0
The Lancers nipped Hamilton (Sussex, Wis.) 52-48 in overtime behind the efforts of Elijah Goodman, who produced 20 points and 12 rebounds.

12. (19) Chaminade (St. Louis), 18-1

The Red Devils posted three victories last week, boosting their winning streak to 15 games. The big one was a 70-59 triumph over Christian Brothers College (St. Louis), which is responsible for its only loss. Jayson Tatum, a 6-9 sophomore guard, led the way against a team coached by his father, Justin Tatum, with 33 points and 15 rebounds. Tatum also scored 30 points during a 69-48 victory over Lutheran North (St. Louis.).

13. (9) Whitney Young (Chicago), 15-5
Playing a merciless schedule, the Dolphins fell to the nation's No. 1-ranked team, Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), 69-57 during the nightcap of the annual Nike Extravaganza in Santa Ana, Calif. Senior guard Miles Reynolds took advantage of the strong inside defense by drilling most of his 21 points from long range, while Jahlil Okafor produced 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Next: Tuesday vs. North Lawndale (Chicago)

14. (14) Greensburg (Ind.), 15-1
Sean Sellers averaged 19.5 points during victories over Lawrenceburg (Ind.) 68-29 and Franklin County (Brookville, Ind.) 83-39. Bryant McIntosh scored 21 points in the latter contest.

15. (16) Carmel (Ind.), 12-1
The Greyhounds raced past Ben Davis (Indianapolis), 52-32, as Zach McRoberts scored 22 points.

16. (17) Zion-Benton (Zion, Ill.), 19-1
The Zee Bees won their 16th straight game with a 68-45 decision against Lake Zurich (Ill.) as Admiral Schofield and Milik Yarbrough each scored 20 points.

17. (4) Park Tudor (Indianapolis), 12-2
The Panthers were upset by North Central (Indianapolis), 74-70, despite 35 points by Trevon Bluiett.
Next: Tuesday at Cardinal Ritter (Indianapolis)

18. (13) Pershing (Detroit), 13-2
Justin Tillman averaged 20 points and 14 rebounds during victories over Frederick Douglass (Detroit), 57-51 in overtime, and Western (Detroit) 62-53, but the Doughboys were handed their second loss 81-79 by Southeastern (Detroit).
Next: Tuesday vs. Renaissance (Detroit)

19. (18) Hickman (Columbia, Mo.), 17-2
The Kewpies were dealt their second loss, 59-54, by Rock Bridge (Columbia, Mo.). Junior Jimmy Whitt scored 11 of his 16 points in a fourth-quarter rally which came up short.

20. (20) Dubuque (Iowa), 14-1
The Rams were handed their first defeat, 68-61, by then-No. 11 Marian Catholic (Chicago Heights, Ill.) during the Wendy's/American Trust Classic at Loras College. Lucas Legrand scored 18 points and Luke McDonnell 16. Kyle Haber averaged 24 points during earlier wins against Jefferson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) 73-46 and East (Waterloo, Iowa) 82-57.
Next: Tuesday at Xavier (Cedar Rapids, Iowa)

21. (22) Omaha Central (Neb.), 16-1

The Eagles won twice last week, raising their winning streak to 15 games. Tre'Shawn Thurman averaged 18 points during victories over Creighton Prep (Omaha) 60-49 and state No. 2-ranked South (Omaha) 49-42.

22. (21) Blue Valley Northwest (Overland Park, Kan.), 10-2
The Huskies lost for the second time this season when Blue Valley North (Blue Valley, Kan.) eked out a 59-57 upset victory despite 21 points by Ben Richardson and Clayton Custer. Custer had 22 points during a 78-37 rout of Blue Valley Southwest (Blue Valley, Kan.).

23. (23) Germantown (Wis.), 17-1
Jake Showalter averaged 25.5 points during victories over Nicolet (Glendale, Wis.) 88-37 and Cedarburg (Wis.) 84-34. Evan Wesenberg added 23 points against Nicolet.

24. (24) Bowman Academy (Gary, Ind.), 12-3
The Eagles were idle last week.

25. (25) Century (Bismarck, N.D.), 13-0
The Patriots defeated Dickinson (N.D.) 78-55 and Williston (N.D.) 79-47 last week. Tyler Rudolph and Dalton Feeney both scored 17 points against Dickinson.
