This Maine school has a clever school name and mascot name combo that honors an influential New England man.
This we know: They are Red Eddies at
Little (Auburn, Maine). There's no confusing that.

Once you put it all together, it can get you mixed up quite easily. All the sudden the Red Eddies become Little Red Eddies. And that's not their intent.
We're guessing that Edward Little, the namesake of the school, is just fine with that. According to the school's website, Little was a generous man who gave his time and money when the state chartered schools in the area. Even though he was not from Maine, the attorney to the Court of Common Pleas embraced his role in the community and was rewarded with his name on the local high school and a statue on campus.
We see quite a few schools in America where the mascot name alone is decent, but then takes on a clever role when combined with the school name. For some reason, perhaps an inexplicable one, the Little seems to go with Red Eddies perfectly and modifies it just right.
Nobody would be too stoked on being a little eddy if it was to honor red water swirling in a waterway. But being a Little Red Eddy honoring Edward Little? That's admirable.
