West Rowan is 9-1 against Concord since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Falcons will challenge the Spiders at 6:30 p.m. West Rowan is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.
Last Tuesday, West Rowan beat Robinson 5-1.
The team relied heavily on Eli Graham, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. He also hit a triple, marking his first of the season. Brice Knox was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Concord came into Wednesday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top in a nail-biter against A.L. Brown on Wednesday, sneaking past 6-5.
Reed Martin made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Concord is 2-1 when Martin allows two or fewer earned runs, but 3-12 otherwise. Martin was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Maxwell Pryduluk was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
Concord was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
West Rowan pushed their record up to 15-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Concord, their record is now 5-13.
Concord's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Rowan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. It's a different story for Concord, though, as they've only averaged .228. Will they be able to contain West Rowan's hitters?
Everything went West Rowan's way against Concord in their previous meeting back in March, as West Rowan made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
