Basketball Recap: Whitmire Comes Up Short

Whitmire had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 2-10 to make it ten. They took a 53-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ware Shoals Hornets. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wolverines of the 74-44 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2025.

When it comes to explaining why Whitmire lost, don't look at Braylen Sartor. Despite the final result, he went 7-for-17 on his way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayden Hopp, who posted 11 points.

As for Ware Shoals, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points over those games.

Tyrell Cunningham was nothing short of spectacular: he scored 15 points along with six boards and four steals. That's the most points he has posted since back in January of 2025. Jayden Johnson was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and 13 rebounds.

Coming up, Whitmire will venture away from home to take on Thornwell at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ware Shoals, they will welcome Strom Thurmond at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
