Basketball Game Preview: Monacan Chiefs vs. Mechanicsville Mustangs

The Monacan Chiefs will square off against the Mechanicsville Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Monacan is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season.

Monacan took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They breezed past Powhatan to the tune of 76-46. The Chiefs' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Monacan had a senior duo take command as Trinity Jones en route to 25 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals and Lila Donnelly shot 4-for-5 from deep and dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten boards. With that strong performance, Donnelly is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Janiah Marrow, who to rack up 10 points.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Mechanicsville walked away with it. They came out on top against the Cyclones by a score of 45-36 on Monday. The victory was nothing new for the Mustangs as they're now sitting on four straight.

Mechanicsville's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points over those games. As for Monacan, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.
