Recap: Purnell Swett Rams vs. Gray's Creek Bears
The Purnell Swett Rams's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They took a 57-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gray's Creek. Purnell Swett was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Gray's Creek apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Purnell Swett lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jodi Freeman, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Freeman continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Collin Sampson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Purnell Swett smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Gray's Creek's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Quion Andrews, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Elijah Jones, who scored 14 points.
Purnell Swett has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Gray's Creek, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Purnell Swett will take on Cape Fear at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cape Fear is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Gray's Creek, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Seventy-First at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Seventy-First is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
