Basketball Recap: Ridgeland Takes a Loss

Ridgeland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 76-49 defeat at the hands of the Heritage Generals. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 448th, while the Generals are ranked 193rd).

Despite the loss, Ridgeland saw an underclassman step up: freshman TJ Foster dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 44.9% of Ridgeland's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Lambert, who put up ten points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Ridgeland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive matchups.

Ridgeland's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Heritage, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-3.

Ridgeland and Ooltewah will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ridgeland is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season. As for Heritage, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 63-53 victory against Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe on the 14th.
