Basketball Recap: Trinity Lutheran Takes a Loss

Trinity Lutheran was the 65-62 winner over Austin when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Trinity Lutheran Cougars took a 64-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Austin Eagles on Saturday. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Trinity Lutheran saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Reed Mellencamp went 9 of 14 en route to 22 points and five assists. That was a full 38.6% of Trinity Lutheran's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Gage King, who earned 11 points.

Trinity Lutheran's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Austin, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-8 record this season.

Trinity Lutheran has already played their next game, a 55-52 loss against Crothersville on the 31st. As for Austin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-47 defeat against Brownstown Central on the 28th.
