Softball Game Preview: Maplewood Rockets vs. Harding Skippers

The Maplewood Rockets are taking a road trip to face off against the Harding Skippers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Maplewood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.

Maplewood's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They came out on top against Badger by a score of 4-0. The game was the first time the Rockets have beaten the Braves on their field since April 18, 2019.

The result came thanks to Addison Marker's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maplewood's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Raegan Krieg, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Another was Claire Urchek, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Meanwhile, Harding came up short against Grand Valley on Monday, falling 13-4. The Skippers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Maplewood's victory bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Harding, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-13.

Maplewood took their win against Harding in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 18-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
