Basketball Game Preview: Permian Panthers vs. Frenship Tigers

Permian is on a eight-game streak of home wins, while Frenship is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Permian Panthers duke it out with the Frenship Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Permian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.

Last Tuesday, Permian took their game with ease, bagging an 84-31 victory over Midland. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matchups by 26 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, everything went Frenship's way against Odessa on Tuesday as Frenship made off with a 70-49 win. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while the Bronchos are ranked 627th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Permian better keep an eye on Patton Pinkins. He was instrumental in Frenship's win, going 11 of 15 en route to 29 points and six rebounds. Daniel Gedeon was another key player, going 5 for 9 on his way to 10 points and six boards.

Permian has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points per game. As for Frenship, their victory bumped their record up to 19-7.

Permian came out on top in a nail-biter against Frenship in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, sneaking past 72-70. Will Permian repeat their success, or does Frenship have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
