Softball Recap: Mendenhall Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Puckett, Mendenhall was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Yazoo County Panthers, sneaking past 8-6. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered a 7-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Ellie Boles was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (two). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Boles wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alli Brewer, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Londyn Cooper was another, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

The victory got Mendenhall back to even at 1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mendenhall will host Florence at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Yazoo County, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Cleveland Central at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
