Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Ava Howard and Anabelle Collins Lead St. Mary's to Victory

Bishop Stang came into Tuesday's contest looking for another win against St. Mary, but Vanessa Magloire wouldn't allow it. St. Mary's skirted past Bishop Stang 3-2 with plenty of help from Magloire, who had 26 digs and seven aces. She has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last nine times she's played.

St. Mary's took Bishop Stang into a fifth set where they got it done with a three-point win. The final score came out to 10-25, 25-16, 25-14, 24-26, 15-12.

St. Mary's was led to victory by Anabelle Collins and Ava Howard. Collins had 12 digs, while Howard had six assists. Mirabelle Calaunan also deserves some recognition as she served her first aces of the season.

St. Mary's was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces every time they've taken the court this season.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Madison Alves, who had 12 digs and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Annabelle Damiano, who had eight kills, six digs, five aces, and one block.

The win got St. Mary's back to even at 8-8. As for Bishop Stang, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10.

St. Mary's wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against Salem on the 16th. As for Bishop Stang, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Westport on the 16th.
