Baseball Recap: Turner Ashby Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Turner Ashby ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Spotswood Trailblazers 2-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-6 back in April.

Sammy Moats spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Turner Ashby saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Spotts, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Another was Cooper Smith, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

Turner Ashby has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Spotswood, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Turner Ashby will challenge Broadway at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Spotswood, they will square off against East Rockingham at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trailblazers will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
