Baseball Recap: Quaker Valley Has No Trouble Against Sewickley Academy

Quaker Valley was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Sewickley Academy on Thursday. The Quakers blew past Sewickley Academy 12-2. While the Quakers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Nolan Wagoner made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryan Finamore, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Oscar Roig, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Quaker Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Quaker Valley's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sewickley Academy, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coming up, Quaker Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against Beaver Falls at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Sewickley Academy, they will venture away from home to square off against Monessen at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Sewickley Academy are facing the Greyhounds at the right time seeing as the Greyhounds are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
