Basketball Recap: Aiden Pittington's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Soroco over Nucla + How To Watch

Soroco extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 14 on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-3. They came up short against the Nucla Mustangs, falling 74-53. The Rams were not able to make up for their defeat to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in December of 2024.

Soroco's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aiden Pittington, who went 8-for-20 en route to 24 points and six boards. Joseph Cordova was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.

As for Nucla, the win keeps them at an undefeated 6-0. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Nucla's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Austin Garvey led the charge by dropping a double-double with 20 points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds gave Garvey a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brycen Rummel, who shot 46% from the field to rack up 14 points along with six assists and six boards.

Looking ahead, Soroco will take on Sierra Grande in a tournament on Thursday. As for Nucla, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Ridgway at 6:30 p.m. on January 8, 2026. The matchup will give the Mustangs their first taste of in-conference action this season.
