Football Recap: Lanier Longhorns vs. Mountain View Bears
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Norcross, Lanier was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 49-21 victory over the Mountain View Bears. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Longhorns considering their ten-point performance the matchup before.
Lanier found their leader in underclassman Ben Vanden Bos, who threw for 159 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 70 yards on only seven carries. Dmajai Hightower was Vanden Bos' top target, picking up 74 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Lanier was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 420 total yards. That's the most total yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
Lanier didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ian Kasende and Joseph Curry. David Edward was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making nine total tackles.
Mountain View lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jahmir Joseph, who rushed for 49 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 54 receiving yards.
The win got Lanier back to even at 1-1. As for Mountain View, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lanier is headed away from home for the first time to square off against North Forsyth at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Mountain View, they will head out to take on Seckinger at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
