Soccer Game Preview: Varina vs. Hermitage

Varina hasn't had much luck against Hermitage recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Blue Devils are taking a road trip to square off against the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Varina has given up an average of 7.1 goals per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Varina is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Hanover, falling 9-0. While losing is never fun, Varina can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 287th, while Hanover are ranked 51st).

Despite a strong season so far, Hermitage has seen their luck take a bit of a downturn recently. They were a single goal away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Freeman.

Hermitage's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Varina, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-11.

Varina might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Hermitage in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
