Calvert fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against New Riegel on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blue Jackets by a score of 4-3. The Senecas' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Ava Eilrich spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Calvert saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gracie Miller, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Kaleigh Concepcion was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Calvert's defeat dropped their record down to 9-2. As for New Riegel, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Calvert will take on rival Danbury at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, New Riegel is set to challenge their familiar foe Old Fort at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
