Basketball Recap: Teagan Lawver's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rockford Christian over Stillman Valley

Rockford Christian lost against Stillman Valley back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Rockford Christian Royal Lions lost 68-45 to the Stillman Valley Cardinals. While losing is never fun, the Royal Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Cardinals are ranked 20th).

Rockford Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Teagan Lawver, who went 6 for 9 en route to 15 points and six boards. Josie Becker was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Rockford Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Rockford Christian's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Stillman Valley, their victory was their 22nd straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-0.

Rockford Christian will face off against Orangeville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Stillman Valley, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 57-51 win against Freeport on the 18th.
