The Topsail Pirates will venture away from home to challenge the North Brunswick Scorpions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Topsail is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.6 points per game this season.
Topsail will bounce into Friday's contest after beating East Bladen, who they had gone 0-4 against in their four prior meetings. Topsail came out on top against East Bladen by a score of 48-41 on Tuesday.
Topsail got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Rhett Britt out in front who went 6 of 9 en route to 14 points. Another player making a difference was Spencer Henry, who posted 12 points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Brunswick). They blew past Heide Trask 99-73 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Scorpions.
Topsail better focus on containing Jack Baker and Kane Jenrette as the pair were huge in North Brunswick's win. Baker went 10 for 14 on his way to 25 points and four steals, while Jenrette went 5 of 6 en route to 18 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Jenrette is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Tyrell Simpson was another key player, going 6 for 7 on his way to 12 points.
North Brunswick was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.
North Brunswick's record now sits at 6-8. As for Topsail, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Topsail hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 56.6 points per game. However, it's not like North Brunswick struggles in that department as they've been averaging 66.4 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Topsail came up short against North Brunswick when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 64-53. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Jenrette, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards. Now that Topsail knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
