Basketball Recap: DC International Dragons vs. Banneker Bulldogs
On Wednesday, the DC International Dragons faced the Banneker Bulldogs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. DC International took a 52-38 bruising from the Bulldogs. DC International was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
DC International's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Mason, who scored 14 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Damani Gross, who scored seven points along with six assists and four steals.
Banneker got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Doran Clausell out in front who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Jeremiah Shelton was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
DC International's loss dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Banneker, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. DC International and the Lions will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in District of Columbia (Washington Latin Public Charter School is ranked 33rd, while the Dragons are ranked 25th). As for Banneker, they will head out on the road to face off against the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering has now lost 11 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 11.
