Basketball Preview: Shanksville Stonycreek Vikings vs. Northern Huskies

Shanksville Stonycreek is 0-4 against the Huskies since February of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The pair will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Shanksville Stonycreek will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 618th in Pennsylvania, while the Huskies are ranked 217th in Maryland).

Shanksville Stonycreek pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a hard 73-57 fall against Turkeyfoot Valley Area. Shanksville Stonycreek was down 58-34 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Shanksville Stonycreek saw an underclassman step up: Braxton Newman dropped a double-double on 20 points and 17 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Newman scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Boozer, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.

Meanwhile, Northern scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 79-37 victory over Hancock on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Northern has managed all season.

Shanksville Stonycreek has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season. As for Northern, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-9.

Shanksville Stonycreek ended up a good deal behind the Huskies when the teams last played back in February of 2023, losing 68-50. Can Shanksville Stonycreek avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
