The Moses Brown Quakers will square off against the Ponaganset Chieftains at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
Moses Brown is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game dating back to last season last Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of Pilgrim.
Elodie Cannon and Ava Lourenco stepped up to the plate in a big way. Cannon went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Lourenco went 3-for-5 with three runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Coco Medeiros, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Ponaganset got their first taste of in-conference action on Monday and they started things off strong. Everything went their way against St. Mary Academy-Bay View as they made off with a 12-2 win. With that victory, the Chieftains brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Mattea Mello made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Mello was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyla Angell, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Claire Barrett was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one double.
Ponaganset hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Mary Academy-Bay View struck out six times.
Moses Brown's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Ponaganset, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
