Recap: Holcomb Longhorns vs. Hugoton Eagles
On Friday, The Holcomb Longhorns''s game was all tied up 7-7 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 21-13 victory over Hugoton. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Holcomb also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2022.
Damon Mesa continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 286 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.2 yards per carry. Mesa is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last five games he's played.
Holcomb is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Hugoton, their defeat on Friday dropped their record down to an identical 5-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Holcomb will take on Southwestern Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Southwestern Heights will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 214th, while Holcomb is ranked 56th). As for Hugoton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Goodland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Goodland is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
