Baseball Game Preview: Huron Chiefs vs. Jefferson Bears

Huron has gone a perfect 10-0 against Jefferson recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Chiefs will host the Bears at 4:30 p.m. Huron is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

On Saturday, Huron got the win against Bedford by a conclusive 14-1. The Chiefs haven't had any issues with the Kicking Mules recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Cash Muzzy tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dayton Miller, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Surma, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Huron kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Jefferson posted their closest win since April 18th on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Dundee, sneaking past 8-7.

Huron pushed their record up to 24-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Jefferson, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-16.

Huron beat Jefferson 7-2 when the teams last played back in April. Will the Chiefs repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
