Basketball Recap: Valdosta Takes a Loss

Valdosta was the 67-51 winner over Richmond Hill when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Valdosta Wildcats fell just short of the Richmond Hill Wildcats by a score of 49-47 on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Valdosta came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while Richmond Hill is ranked 258th).

When it comes to explaining why Valdosta lost, don't look at Jabarri Williams. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a triple-double on 24 points, nine boards, and nine assists. Those nine boards gave Williams a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaleb Johnson, who posted eight points in addition to ten boards and three steals.

Valdosta has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-6 record this season. As for Richmond Hill, their record now sits at 6-7.

Valdosta wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 57-45 victory against Camden County on the 4th. As for Richmond Hill, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-44 loss against Colquitt County on the 4th.
