Baseball Recap: San Marin Takes Down Novato in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and San Marin had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Novato Hornets a 12-0 shutout on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won seven in a row.

Sean McGrath made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyler Keehn, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Hunter Uriarte was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.

San Marin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

San Marin's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Novato, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-10.
