Baseball Recap: Brown Has No Trouble Against Waggener

Brown made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Waggener, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bears blew past the Wildcats 19-3 on Monday. Considering the Bears have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Oscar Wright made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk). Wright was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Wright is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Jamison Calloway was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Elijah Borders was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.

Brown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Waggener only posted an OBP of .292.

The victory made it two in a row for Brown and bumps their season record up to 7-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Waggener, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Looking ahead, Brown will face off against Frankfort Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Waggener, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against W.E.B. DuBois Academy at 5:00 p.m. The Wildcats will need to watch out since the Lions have now posted at least ten runs in their last seven games.
