Softball Recap: Thursday's Defeat Ends Wicksburg's Winning Streak

Wicksburg dropped their record down to 35-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's 12-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Rehobeth Rebels, falling 15-5. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Panthers, who until this contest were averaging 1.62 runs allowed.

Chloe Joyner was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Anleigh Wood, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

As for Rehobeth, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-14-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games.

On Rehobeth's side, AG Massey spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits. Massey has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maddie Williams, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazzy Andrews, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Wicksburg beat Rehobeth by a score of 9-1 on Friday.
