Volleyball Recap: Thursday's Defeat Ends Riverside's Winning Streak

After a string of nine wins, Riverside's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Nebraska Christian Eagles. The Chargers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Riverside was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-15.

Their offense was headlined by Tessa Weltruski and Grace Mahony, who picked up seven kills apiece. They got some help from Ella Molt and her 15 assists. Finally, Haylee Ray kept Riverside's defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.

Nebraska Christian found their leader in sophomore Adeline Hunnicutt, who had 25 assists and five digs. Hunnicutt has been hot for a while, having posted 20 or more assists the last ten times she's played.

Riverside's loss dropped their record down to 13-2. As for Nebraska Christian, their victory ended a three-match drought at home and bumped them up to 11-4.

Riverside wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Ord on the 29th. As for Nebraska Christian, they will face off against Lincoln Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
