Football Recap: Independence Takes a Loss

After flying high against Brooklyn last Friday, Independence came back down to earth. The Blue Devils were dealt a 41-14 defeat at the hands of the Fairview Warriors on Friday. The Blue Devils were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-0.

Several Blue Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sam Bernhardt, who rushed for 67 yards and one score. Bernhardt also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making eight total tackles and defending one pass.

Burke Lowry continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Fairview, throwing for 310 yards and three TDs while completing 81.2% of his passes, and also punching in one touchdown on the ground. With that strong performance, Lowry is now averaging an impressive 300.8 passing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Will Allen, who picked up 106 receiving yards and one score.

Independence's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Fairview, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
