Baseball Recap: Palmer Terrors vs. Coronado Cougars
Palmer extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-12 in the process. They came up short against the Coronado Cougars, falling 13-6. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, with their most recent defeat being a 7-0 loss on Tuesday.
Conner Dozeman was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
As for Coronado, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games.
On Coronado's side, Tysen Noll was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Noll was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Turner Whitney was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Coronado: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Oliver Freiling was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Coming up, Palmer will take on Canon City at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Terrors surely won't give up without a fight. As for Coronado, they will challenge Pueblo Centennial at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
