Softball Recap: Covington Wins Going Away Against Troy Christian

Covington won the last time they faced Troy Christian and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Buccs blew past the Eagles 15-5. Considering the Buccs have won five matches by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Whitney Burns made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Elizabeth Coblentz was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Hartwig, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Covington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. They are 5-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Covington's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Troy Christian, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Covington didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 14-2 win against Bethel on the 24th. As for Troy Christian, they have also already played their next game, a 12-0 loss against Newton Local on the 23rd.
