Basketball Recap: South Lake Takes a Loss

South Lake was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Eustis Panthers, falling 54-30. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 275th, while the Panthers are ranked 128th).

Despite the loss, South Lake still got an impressive performance from Molly Burke, who went 6 of 10 to rack up 16 points and five boards. That was a full 53.3% of South Lake's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Eustis got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dakeria Brown out in front who went 9 for 18 on her way to 21 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which Brown has scored at least a third of Eustis' points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Davis-Smith, who went 7 of 10 en route to 14 points in addition to seven steals and five boards.

South Lake's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Eustis, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-4.

South Lake wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 33-30 victory against Lake Minneola on the 4th. As for Eustis, they have also already played their next contest, a 52-33 win against Citrus on the 6th.
