Basketball Recap: Hanover Takes a Loss

On Saturday, the Hanover Hornets ended up a good deal behind the Kit Carson Wildcats and lost 41-27. While the Hornets didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Wildcats 9-5 in the first quarter.

Defeat or not, Hanover got some senior leadership from Junior Diaz and Tyler Decker. Diaz posted 14 points in addition to six steals and five boards, while Decker had eight points and eight steals. That's the most steals Diaz has posted since back in December of 2024.

Josiah Irwin was the offensive standout of the contest as he dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was his third in a row with at least 15 points. Junior Farmer was another key player, putting up eight points and six boards.

Hanover dropped their record down to 12-9 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Kit Carson, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-12 record this season.

Hanover and Kit Carson are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Hanover will challenge Otis on Friday. Otis will roll in looking for their 17th straight win, something Hanover surely won't give up without a fight. As for Kit Carson, they will square off against Elbert at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Elbert is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.8 points per game this season.
