Basketball Recap: Stanton County Comes Up Short

Stanton County suffered their biggest loss since March 1, 2024 on Saturday. They took a blow against the Lakin Broncs, falling 73-43. The Trojans have struggled against the Broncs recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Stanton County still got an impressive performance from David Crane, who went 6 of 11 en route to 15 points and six boards. That was a full 34.9% of Stanton County's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Arihm Gonzalez, who earned eight points and five rebounds.

Stanton County's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-2. As for Lakin, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.

Stanton County and Lakin should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings. Stanton County (ranked 44th) will meet Deerfield (ranked 275th) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Stanton County is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road dating back to last season. Similarly, Lakin will take on Elkhart at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 217 places (15 vs. 232).
