It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Springfield Township ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Upper Moreland Bears 5-4. The victory was familiar territory for the Spartans, who have now won four matchups in a row.

Nolan Kidwell tossed a big game, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Owen Hastings, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Caruso, who went 2-for-5 with one run and one double.

Springfield Township kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.2.

Springfield Township pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Upper Moreland, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Bears beat Springfield Township by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday.
