Star power: QB Shawn Robinson (70, TCU), OGs Edward Ingram (179, LSU) and Xavier Newman (486, Texas), WRs Laviska Shenault Jr. (274, Colorado) and K.D. Nixon (285, Tennessee), OT Hyrin White (648, Missouri) and S Isaiah Stewart (923).

Even more: Junior running back Kelan Walker (6-foot, 200 pounds) is touted as the next great Texas back after averaging 7.8 yards per carry as a sophomore. Wide receiver Byron Hanspard Jr., center Xavier Newman (6-3, 290), defensive tackle Wesley Green (6-0, 315), linebacker Kemonte Yow (6-1, 230), safety Mike Singleton (6-0, 200) and cornerback German Green (6-2, 170) are all considered FBS prospects.

Toughest game: DeSoto hosts Guyer (Denton, Texas) on Sept. 2.

Briefly: The 6-3, 200-pound Robinson accounted for 7,216 yards and 81 touchdowns as a two-year starter at Guyer (Denton) before transferring in the spring. That gives the Sept. 2 showdown some extra pop. … Green and Stewart have been starters since their sophomore seasons. … Peterman was the offensive coordinator at DeSoto before taking over head coaching duties in 2015.
