Basketball Game Preview: Needville Bluejays vs. El Campo Ricebirds

Needville and El Campo are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Needville Bluejays will face off against the El Campo Ricebirds at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Needville has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests.

Needville took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 53-50 victory over Sweeny.

Needville relied on the efforts of James Schreck, who posted 17 points and five steals, and Jaydon Ortiz, who went 7 of 13 en route to 17 points and three steals. Those five steals gave Schreck a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamarkus Jack, who put up no points in addition to seven assists, six steals, and five boards.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 73-40, which was the final score in El Campo's tilt against Wharton on Friday. The Ricebirds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

El Campo's loss dropped their record down to 9-15. As for Needville, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-12 record this season.

Needville couldn't quite finish off El Campo in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 and fell 46-43. Can Needville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
