Basketball Recap: Southland Christian Finds Playoff Glory Versus Calusa Prep

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Southland Christian walked away with it. They secured a 63-59 W over the Calusa Prep Colts on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the FLAMES sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Southland Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carlos Escalera Jr., who went 8-for-12 to rack up 20 points in addition to eight assists and seven rebounds. Escalera Jr. is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games he's played. Sebastian Rivera was another key player, going 6-for-12 on his way to 18 points along with six boards and three steals.

Southland Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Southland Christian's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 26-3. As for Calusa Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.

Southland Christian will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Pathways at 6:45 a.m. on March 7th. Calusa Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
