Lansing Catholic proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 18) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Mason Bulldogs. That's more bragging rights for the Cougars, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Zoey Gruber made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Gruber was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Avery Dunneback was excellent, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Austynn Arellano, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Lansing Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Mason, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Coming up, Lansing Catholic will face off against Eaton Rapids at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Greyhounds will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mason, they will square off against Williamston at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
