Basketball Recap: Waverly Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with East Lansing

On Friday, Waverly faced East Lansing in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Waverly Warriors fell just short of the East Lansing Trojans by a score of 62-60. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

East Lansing got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cameron Hutson out in front who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. The match was Hutson's seventh in a row with at least 15 points. Kelvin (KJ) Torbert, Jr. was another key player, going 6-for-12 to rack up 20 points and six boards.

Waverly's loss dropped their record down to 15-3. As for East Lansing, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-1.

Waverly wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 71-51 victory against Grand Ledge on the 10th. As for East Lansing, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-30 win against DeWitt on the 11th.
