Baseball Recap: Starkville Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Starkville dropped their record down to 15-10 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Lafayette Commodores by a score of 6-4. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Yellowjackets of the 6-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Jonas Coleman was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Lafayette, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

On Lafayette's side, Landon Cobbs was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those two hits gave Cobbs a new career-high. Levi Hamm was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Starkville will challenge Hillcrest at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lafayette, they will square off against South Panola at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Commodores surely won't give up without a fight.
