Baseball Game Preview: Wellborn Panthers vs. Pennington Tigers

For the second straight game, Wellborn will face off against Pennington. The Panthers will welcome the Tigers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Wellborn has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Pennington will arrive with three straight wins.

Wellborn heads in on the heels of a playoff matchup on Friday. They came up short against Pennington, falling 19-5.

For Pennington's part, Connor Timmerman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off one hit. Timmerman was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Noah McClendon was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kaden Cantrell, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Pennington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.

Wellborn's defeat dropped their record down to 9-20. As for Pennington, their victory bumped their record up to 18-13.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wellborn has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pennington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
