Baseball Recap: Kolbe-Cathedral Comes Up Short

Kolbe-Cathedral had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 5-8 to make it four. They fell 6-3 to the Masuk Panthers. If the Cougars were looking for revenge after losing 4-0 to the Panthers when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Masuk, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games.

For Masuk's part, they got a great performance from Henry Barba as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. What's more, Barba posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chris Welch, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Zylick, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Coincidentally, Kolbe-Cathedral and Masuk will both be playing Joel Barlow the next time they take the field. The Panthers will host the Falcons at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Cougars will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
