Softball Recap: North Takes a Loss

After flying high against Metro Tech last Friday, North came back down to earth. The Mustangs took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fairfax Stampede on Monday. The Mustangs have struggled against the Stampede recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Solis Coker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and seven unearned) runs on one hit and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, North saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Athena Suazo, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

North's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 8-10. As for Fairfax, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-6 record.

While North had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
