Burrell is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mt. Pleasant Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Burrell gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Southmoreland with a sharp 14-1 victory. With that win, the Bucs brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.
Colton Whitlock spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits.

On the hitting side, Burrell got a massive performance out of Trey Coury, who went 3-for-6 with four RBI and two runs. Coury has become a key player for the Bucs: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 1-2 otherwise. Rayden Shirey was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
Burrell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .436. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Mt. Pleasant had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They never let the Lancers get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Bobby Smithnosky made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ian Shipley was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Brady Brooks, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Burrell's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Mt. Pleasant, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Burrell couldn't quite finish off Mt. Pleasant when the teams last played back in April of 2025 and fell 5-3. Can the Bucs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
