Basketball Game Preview: Hiwassee Dam Eagles vs. Hayesville Yellowjackets

The Hiwassee Dam Eagles will head out to square off against the Hayesville Yellowjackets at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hiwassee Dam has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 183 points over their last three matchups.

On Friday, Hiwassee Dam blew past Swain County, posting a 56-27 win. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 29 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Hayesville suffered their closest defeat since December 6, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of Towns County by a score of 43-40.

Hiwassee Dam will have to contain Mallory Peck as she made an impact in Hayesville's last game. She dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds. Those 20 points gave Peck a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Shook, who posted 11 points and eight assists.

Even though they lost, Hayesville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Hiwassee Dam's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Hayesville, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

Hiwassee Dam didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Hayesville when the teams last played back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 60-54 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hiwassee Dam since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
