StrengthsRobbinsville will return most of their roster from last seasons SMC championship team. Offensively the Lady Knights return 15 players who hit over .300 and averaged 9 runs per game. Last year was the best defensive team statistically that we have had the last 11 years. The Lady Knights fielded at a .951 clip last spring led by freshman sensation KJ Spencer, a second baseman who committed only ONE error on the season. Losing the SMC Player of the year Naomi Taylor will obviously be difficult shoes to fill. But the cupboard is not bare in Graham County. The pitching staff will be anchored by Freshman Ella Nelms, This will be one of the stronger teams overall Robbinsville has fielded the last 11 years. We will have to be good at all aspects of the game to defend the SMC title for the 9th year in a row as the SMC is deeper than it has been in years! We are looking forward to the challenge of a tough schedule this spring and competing for a 1A state title.
ReturningTop returning players for the Knights are All SMC players Daphne Barlow, Suri Watty, and Ella Atwell. These girls were also All Region and 1A All State players. Sophomore SS Barlow led all starters last season with a .475 average. Senior 3B Watty was close behind slugging at a .450 clip. As consistent as they come junior Atwell hit .393 last season. Other notable returners are Sophie Roberts, Anna Williams, Sydney Adams, Lexie Williams, Khaygan Buchanan, KJ Spencer, Loxley Burke, and Dreylee Webster.
NewcomersThe freshman class is very strong with 3 young ladies who will play a pivotal role in the teams success this season. Heading the class is the aforementioned Ella Nelms, a very talented hurler and a solid hitter! Myah Winfrey is a very talented athlete that will definitely compete for a starting role this spring! Another talented freshman Natty Myers is another player to watch this spring!
Freshman Ella Nelms let the coaching staff know this fall that she is ready to be THE GIRL this spring. We are excited and lucky to have a hurlers of her caliber leading this team in the circle! Depth in the circle will be provided by senior Shri Watty and sophomore KJ Spencer.
