The Avalon Eagles scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They strolled past Oakwood with points to spare, taking the game 48-31. That's another feather in the cap for Avalon, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Avalon found their leader in underclassman Brooklyn De La Garza, who scored 27 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which De La Garza has scored at least 25% of Avalon's points. Haley Zaidle was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
When it comes to explaining why Oakwood lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jacee Youngblood. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. The matchup was Youngblood's fifth in a row with at least ten points.
Avalon has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Oakwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avalon will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bynum at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Bynum is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. Oakwood will be home for the holidays to greet Richards at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
